You have a lot of options when it comes to wildlife conservation science fair projects. Your first option is to simply work with the wildlife that is in your own backyard. For example, you can conduct a species count in your neighborhood, a local park, near your school or at a local recreation area. If you are interested in a long term science fair project then you can conduct several species counts over a one, two, three, four or five year period. This will help you to determine if your area is losing or gaining specie diversity over time.

Another option that you have for wildlife conservation science fair projects is to put together a video project. This project can be a mini documentary about a specific study area. For example, you can example a local park during your school year. You will want to film the animal wildlife and the plant wildlife life during different seasons, how humans use the area, signs of pollution, signs of natural erosion and changes and you will want to film specific elements of the area that is impacting the health of the area such as air pollution caused by a local factory, road kill hazards, or litter.

Your third option is to utilize historical data about your local area and compare it against the current species diversity and ecosystem health. Resources that you can use include science magazines and books, websites, your local library and local wildlife authorities. You can also use the best science projects books on the market to help you design your experiments. Finally, you can use documentaries and video footage archived by the U.S. government and state government agencies.

Your fourth option is to build your wildlife conservation science fair projects around your own conservation project. To do this you will need to select an animal, plant or ecosystem to work with. Then you will need to set up a conservation plan, for example you may want to clean up a local ecosystem so that it is more suitable for wildlife to inhabit. You will need to collect data before, during and after you complete your project. The changes in your data over the duration of your project will demonstrate how effective or ineffective your conservation strategies were.
