Year after year parents and teachers try to find ways to encourage kids to take a bigger interest in science. This is not only because science is a major part of their academic careers, but also because the scientific process helps to develop critical thinking skills. If you are a parent or a teacher who is looking for a way to stimulate the minds of the kids in your life then you may want to consider introducing fun and easy science experiments.

Fun and easy science experiments don't have to be expensive. In many cases all you will need are items you normally would recycle or throw away and a few household ingredients, and you can also use science fair online coupons and discounts . For example, if you would like to explore the properties of a vacuum, then you may want to try the "egg in a bottle" experiment. To complete this experiment all you will need is a book of matches, some newspaper, an empty glass jug like an apple juice container and a hard boiled egg. To complete this experiment all you will have to do is place some newspaper in the jug, light it on fire, place the hard boiled egg over the opening in the jug, watch the fire go out and then watch the egg get sucked into the bottle.

In addition to adding a little excitement to the normal science curriculum or daily routine, fun and easy science experiments can also be the focus of your science lesson plan. When developing your lesson plan you will want to provide background information on vacuums, the concepts that will be introduced by the day's lesson, you will want to introduce the steps of the experiment and you will want to develop a follow up discussion on what happened during the experiment and why. Check out Shar Levine science fair books for details.

Selecting science experiments for the classroom is fairly easy to do. First of all you will want to establish a budget for the experiment. If your classroom budget doesn't include funds for an experiment then you can break the classroom into groups and have each group bring in the low cost or no cost materials needed for the experiment. If your classroom budget will allow you to buy materials then you can try out more elaborate science experiments. The second factor that you will want to take into consideration when selecting a science experiment for the classroom is its topic. You will want to select science projects that relate to the concepts and topics that you are currently teaching in class. Some of the projects you may want to consider introducing to your students include:

  • Telescopes

  • Dancing Coins

  • Lumina Boxes

  • Dry Ice Experiments
  • If you are a parent that is interested in completing fun and easy science experiments at home, then you will have a different set of project selection criterion than teachers have. First of all you may want to focus your project selection on what is fun for kids. Next you will want to take into consideration the age of your kids. Finally you will want to select projects that are safe to complete at home. Some of your options include:

  • Simple Animation Experiments

  • Refraction Experiments

  • Crystal Growing Experiments

  • Pinhole Camera Experiments
