Easy Elementary Science Projects for Kids
Easy elementary science projects are a great way to not only introduce your kids or students to scientific concepts, but it is also a great way to help kids develop reasoning and critical thinking skills. When selecting projects for kids it is important to keep in mind their age, their interests and what they are currently studying in their school science classes. With these pieces of information in mind, you start your search for easy science projects.
One of the first things that you will want to look for in easy elementary science projects is that they are both easy for kids to complete and fun for kids to do. For starters you can look into some great 24-hour science fair projects. If the project is too difficult or if it is boring, then your students, or child, will lose interest in the project and develop a negative attitude about science. To keep their attention and to develop a positive attitude about science you will want to find projects that are innovative, fun, surprising and if you have the stomach for it, gross is always a crowd pleaser. There are many different easy elementary science projects that you can work on. Some are simple and require ordinary household items to complete, while others are more complex and require kits to complete. If you are on a tight budget, or if you are just looking for an after school project for your kids to keep them entertained, then you may want to start with the simple experiments that require basic ingredients that you can find around the house. Some of the easy science projects that you might want to try include: Each of these easy science experiments takes a look at the properties of normal, every day items. Some look at chemical reactions, like the salt experiment, while others look at cohesion properties, the sticky water experiment. These experiments are great for after school activities, for supplements to school curriculum and for stimulating larger, more complex science fair projects. After you select a science project to work on it is important that you carefully look at the instructions for the project. While you are using basic household ingredients, the chemical reactions can create mildly hazardous conditions that can lead to injuries if you are not properly protected. Therefore, when working with chemical reactions or propulsion theories, you will want to make sure you, your child, and/or your students are wearing gloves, goggles and aprons. Teaching safety during the elementary science experiments is critical for when your kids graduate onto more complex projects. In order to infuse easy elementary school science projects with educational value, you will want to talk about the experiment before, during and after. Discuss with your kids the ingredients that you used, the techniques that you used and the results of the experiments. After you have provided your kids, or students, with the background information for the experiment turn the tables on them and ask them questions as the experiment progresses. This will engage their minds in the project and help them to focus on what is happening and why it is happening.
