Global warming is a topic that you here everyday. However, there is still a controversy being raged over whether global warming is a true phenomenon or if it is a natural fluctuation in the Earth's temperature. If you are interested in environmental science experiments, then you will want to try out a few of these global warming science fair projects.

The first option that you have for classroom global warming science fair projects is for your students to examine the phenomenon of glacial cap melting. This topic is commonly used to support that global warming is real. However, if you examine the history books, even the Vikings mentioned that glaciers were melting. Your job in this experiment is to look not only at the glaciers that are melting and retreating, but also at the glacier buildups that are still occurring. Is the Earth producing more or less glacial material then is being melted each year?

The second option that you have for global warming science fair projects is to examine local temperature changes. Environmental experiments science fair projects like this one, will rely on your ability to mine data from local sources. If you can't find the weather data online for your area, go to your local public library and research local archives. If you still can't find the data that you need then contact your local weather service. They should have an archive of weather data for at least the last ten to twenty years.

When you look at science fair projects on global warming you need to be objective. To be an effective experiment, you need to identify the variables that you want to work with. In cases of global warming projects you need to either use global warming as your variable or you need to assume that it is true. This will help you to control how your data is produced and limit the number of interpretations that you have to make.

The third project option that you have is to explore how global warming is impacting the biodiversity in the world's oceans. In these experiments the independent variable will be global warming and the dependent variable will be the biodiversity in the world's oceans. As you set up your experiment, remember that there could be other reasons why biodiversity is declining, like pollution and overfishing. Make sure you address these issues during the discussion section of your written report.

The final project idea that you can use for global warming projects is to see how forest fires have been impacted by global warming trends. You can look at the number of forest fires that occur each year, you can look at the size of the fires or you can look at how much damage is caused by forest fires each year. Your job in these experiments will be to compare historical data to current data to determine if global warming seems to be increasing or decreasing the forest fire characteristics that you are examining.
