Elementary aged students can work with basic engineering experiments while high school students can experiment with more complex hypotheses. If you are interested in building rockets then have fun with the following sample projects.

Build an electric powered rocket. This is a great option for students interested in science fair projects on rocket science. You can either build a rocket from scratch or take advantage of rocket kits found at hobby and science shops. To turn building a rocket into an experiment you will need to create a hypothesis to test with your rocket. For example, you can test the hypothesis that electric powered rockets will be successful at launching four out of five times.

Chemical rocket designs are another interesting option that you have for science fair projects on rocket science. These science fair projects on rocket science utilize chemical reactions to create the force need to lift the rocket off the ground. The independent variables for these experiments will be the chemical reactions you use and the dependent variable will be the amount of lift the chemical reaction is able to produce.

How high can a model rocket go? This is an interesting hypothesis question to try and answer. Engineering based science projects can be used to test this hypothesis. You will need to figure out the weight to lift ratio that each type of rocket is capable of producing. You will then need to determine what modifications you can make to increase the height your rocket can fly to.

Produce a safe landing for your rocket and pilot. This project will look at the design of the parachute apparatus that is used to bring the rocket parts and the pilot back down to earth. This is an important project to work on, because if you can get your rocket body back to earth in one piece you can reuse. This will save you money and allow you to complete more than one experiment per rocket.

There are a lot of aspects of rocket science that you can design a hypothesis around. One area that many students overlook is the monitoring system used for rocket science. If you are interested in an advanced project, and are interested in electronics, then consider working on a monitoring system project. For these projects you will want to explore how to track the rocket, how to keep in contact with the rocket and what tracking methods are best for model rockets. Think about using radar, sonar and video surveillance tools.
