Fun Fact: Did you know that the Scottish physicist, Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, used a metal detector to try to find a bullet that was in the back of American President James Garfield in 1881?

Metal Detector Features
  • Aluminum extension from 23" (58cm) to 38" (96cm)

  • LED display

  • Low electrical consumption

  • High-low sensitivity adjustment

  • Durable ABS body

  • Instruction manual

Science Fair Project Ideas

  • Compare the lead content of drinking Water in different homes or schools
  • Tests the effects of zinc on the Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) and how good of a hyper-accumulator of zinc this plant species is.  : http://www.odec.ca/projects/2005/gupt5n0/public_html/
  • Find out what insulators might prevent metal from being detected to prevent a bomb or bullet from being found by collecting metal samples and making a frame. Collected insulator samples of the same size and volume made out of different rocky materials with different densities.

Tune the metal detector to a silent radio signal and then put a metal sample underneath and slowly bring the metal detector down until you hear a static signal. Record the height when the signal was detected. Repeat the experiment for each of the metal samples and each insulator.
