Earth science fair projects for high school students need to be slightly for advanced than those that are produced by middle schoolers. However, the same basic topics can be used by both high schoolers and middle schoolers. Some of the topics that high school students can work with include: soil composition, water cycle, food webs and ecosystems.
Soil composition experiments can be a great topic for earth science fair projects for high school science fairs. Soil is readily available at any corner, it is free and it is complex. Students can focus their earth science experiments on unique compounds found within the soil, they can look for specific lead toxins or they can evaluate the nutrients in the soil.
The water cycle can also be explored by earth science fair projects for high school science fairs. However, if the student wants to do well in the science fair competition, they will need to produce a project that goes beyond a diagram of the water system. For example, students can evaluate teh chemical makeup of the water in the local area, they can chart the changes in precipitation in a region over a long period of time or they can study how changing water patterns have impacted civilizations.
Food webs are another great topic for earth science fair projects for high school students. Food web earth science projects can focus on a lot of different things. They can focus on local food webs, they can examine how the elimination of one member of a food web would impact the rest of the web or they can explore how local changes to the food web are impacting the health of the local ecology.
Ecosystem earth science fair projects evaluate the interactions of all of the above topics. These projects have the potential to be science fair winners, because of their complexity and their value to science and humankind. Some ecosystem projects that you can do include: studying the local ecosystem, comparing different ecosystems and creating a longitudinal study of the local ecosystem.
Earth science fair projects for high school students are interested in their surroundings. When designing earth science experiments to support your hypothesis, remember to keep your experiments focused on your ultimate goal, to determine if your hypothesis is true or false.
You can also get together as a team and create earth science labs.

Tip: If you are dealing with complex science fair projects, you may want to create two or more experiments. This is only for the very ambitious student and if you have enough time.
