Tips for showing off your computer science experiments...
An exhibition project for Polytechnic students related to computer science in multimedia can take a look at many different aspects of multimedia computer science. However, while Polytechnic students are talented scientists, they need to understand what the judges are looking for. This knowledge will help them to score better with their projects. Below are five things that judges look for in Polytechnic student projects.
The first thing that judges look for in an exhibition project for polytechnic students related to computer science in multimedia is student innovation. Innovation is basically your ability to think outside the box and to approach topics in a unique and interesting way. Innovation is one of the main scoring categories for science competitions so don't skip it. The second thing that judges look for in an exhibition project for Polytechnic students related to computer science in multimedia is the application of concepts and knowledge acquired during the student's education. The application of this knowledge has to be thoroughly demonstrated and it must be used effectively in the computer science fair experiments. Judges will be looking for the application of specific science concepts that they know students from Polytechnic have studied. Keep this in mind when developing your project. The third element judges will be looking at is the student's ability to problem solve. Problem solving skills will be evaluate by examining how students solved problems related to testing their hypothesis, problems related to design flaws and problems related to the analysis of the data that was collected. Problem solving skills will be further tested by the judges as they ask the student questions about their project. Judges will try to stump students by asking a lot of "what if" questions and by challenging their results and their experiment's design. Another element that judges will be looking at is how well the Polytechnic students worked together on their project. Since this is a team sport judges will be looking at how much each team member contributed to the project. To help the judges give your team a better score, create a task list that shows who was responsible for what. Also, make sure each member of your team is ready to answer questions about your project including questions about its design, the collection of data and about your conclusions. While Polytechnic science projects are college level projects, eighth grade science fair projects can be created using the Polytechnic projects as a guide. When trying to develop a middle school science fair project from a higher level project, students will need to scale down the project and identify topics and concepts that they will be comfortable working with. If the student is particularly gifted, they can take on the challenging of completing a similarly complex project or even take the Polytechnic project to the next level.
