The PicoTurbine Retification Kit gives your students the ability to
safely experience and test alternating AC / DC electrical current.

(Recommended for ages 13 through adult and advanced middle school student
with some adult supervision)

Rectification DC Experiments Kit
Includes 12 page manual guide.

Interesting facts: Germany, the US, Spain, Denmark, and India are among the world's leading nations in the acquisition of wind energy.

In the U.S. many states now require that part of their energy production come from renewable sources. Utilities are now offering people the choice of buying green power at a premium over power from conventional, environmentally-damaging sources such as fossil fuels.

Teaches Electrical Energy Concepts

Originally, DC Experiments kit was designed as an add-on kit to the PicoTurbine Educational Windmill. Students came up with the idea that when you combine 2 kits together you can perform experiments.

No soldering is required, because the kit includes a solderless breadboard and jumper wires. Just follow the simple instructions to connect together the parts and perform the experiments!

The Kit performs Rectification to DC or recifies a component of an electric circuit used to change alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), which is needed for electronic devices.

Each kit includes all parts that you will need:
  • One light emitting diode (LED) with 2 leads

  • 2' of thick aluminum wire

  • 4 pre-wound coils of enamel coated copper wire

  • 4 ceramic grade-5 magnets

  • 3 Phillips head (cross slot) screws

  • A wooden dowel sharpened on one end

  • A piece of wood about 8" by 5” and ½" thick

  • A piece of corrugated cardboard about 8" by 10"

  • 3 retaining clips (small semi-circular metal e-clips, see picture)

  • A strip of pre-cut double-sided tape pads

  • A small piece of sandpaper for stripping copper wire

  • Template sheet for the cardboard parts

  • Instruction booklet, including teacher's guide and technical notes. The guide shows you how to build 4 different circuits and test them.
  • Circuits explained include:
  • A simple half-wave rectifier,
  • A half-wave rectifier with smoothing capacitors,
  • A full wave "bridge" rectifier with and without smoothing, and
  • A voltage doubling rectifier.
  • Materials you will need to provide:

  • Scissors

  • Phillips head screw driver

  • Pliers

  • Ruler

  • Paste, or a glue-stick
  • It is useful to have a digital multimeter that can measure AC volts for tuning and testing the alternator, and displaying the amount of electricity produced. Look at the discount packages to save money on a multitester and other accessaries.

Experiments use the bicolor LED to let students "see" the difference between alternating and direct current. Also, the piezo buzzer is used to allow students to "hear" the difference between smoothed and unsmoothed DC current. These innovative methods allow the kit to be affordable but still give students a hands-on feeling for the concepts involved.
